We provide fire protection to all of Greenwood County (outside the City of Greenwood) through a strong career + volunteer system:

  • 6 Full-Time & 2 Part-Time Firefighters Staffed Daily
  • 12 Volunteer Fire Districts
  • Each career station supports 4 districts

We work side-by-side with our volunteers to deliver professional, countywide coverage.

Pay & Benefits

  • Starting Salary: $43,292.54/year without calculating built-in overtime
  • Potential: $50,775.00 with built in overtime, holiday and in-service pay.

Requirements

  • Firefighter II (IFSAC or ProBoard)
  • EMR Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Valid SC Driver’s License (CDL or Class E)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • EVDT
  • Pump Operations 1

POSITION SUMMARY

Greenwood County is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter II / Emergency Medical Responder. The purpose of this position is to perform skilled firefighting, emergency medical response, and fire prevention duties. Responsibilities include preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires; protecting life and property; assisting the public; and performing station and equipment maintenance. Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Responds to emergencies with assigned equipment, lays and connects fire hose lines, holds nozzles, and directs water streams.
  • Responds to medical emergency scenes and performs Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) procedures.
  • Communicates via radio with the radio dispatch center, hospital personnel, and other public safety agencies to receive and transmit instructions involving patient care. Provides instructions to first responders and bystanders in the use of first aid equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, including inspecting fire suppression apparatus and equipment, fire hydrants, draft sites, and other related emergency equipment.
  • Completes emergency incident reports and forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepares and completes pre-fire planning surveys of commercial structures and gathers the information necessary for the preparation of pre-fire plans.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attends in-service training as required to maintain certification.
  • Communicates with department members, as well as outside agencies, through various communication systems.
  • Assists with general housekeeping of the station.
  • Drives fire apparatus, rescue vehicles, and other department vehicles as required.
  • Operates fire pumps and other devices used in fire suppression.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent
  • Emergency Medical Responder course/training.
  • No prior experience is required. Previous fire suppression experience preferred.
